When is the Best Season to Visit Bend, Oregon?

Bend, Oregon is a popular destination for vacations and second homes, but with limited time and resources, you may ask yourself, “When is the BEST time of year to visit?

As you probably well know, Bend is an outdoor enthusiast’s Mecca and offers a variety of activities any time of year. The answer for WHEN the best time to visit largely depends on your interests and the activities you want to participate in.

Summer (June - August): Summer is the peak tourist season in Bend. The weather is warm and dry with daytime temperatures ranging from the high 70s to mid-80s (°F). This is the best time to enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, fishing, and river rafting. Vacation rental and hotel prices will be the highest this time of year, but the return on investment is the greatest with the plethora of outdoor activities there are to enjoy this time of year:

Fall (September - November): Fall is a great time to visit Bend if you want to avoid the crowds and still enjoy mild weather. Temperatures range from the high 50s to mid-70s (°F). This is also the time when the fall foliage is at its peak, making it an excellent time for hiking, biking, and scenic drives.

Winter (December - February): Winter in Bend is cold with mostly sunny days and snowfall averaging around 30 inches. If you dress warm, there is still plenty to enjoy! This is the time when the ski resorts open, and you can enjoy popular activities such as skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and ice skating.

Spring (March - May): Spring is a great time to visit Bend if you want to experience the beautiful wildflowers and waterfalls. Temperatures range from the mid-40s to mid-60s (°F), and there are fewer crowds than in the summer. Weather can be extremely variable and the forecast is often wrong, so make sure you bring gear for all the seasons if you visit this time of year! Similar to Fall, this is also an excellent time for hiking and mountain biking, but there are some other unique ideas and events exclusive to this season.

Overall, there is no bad time to visit Bend, it just depends on your interests and the activities you want to participate in. No matter when you visit, you'll find plenty of things to do and beautiful scenery to enjoy.
